Get To Know A #Girlboss // Emma Ceolin
We are always told that when the world gives you lemons, you make lemonade... or have a shot of tequila, you pick your poison. Emma Ceolin is a living and breathing example of a woman who was handed buckets of lemons, and chose to not allow the acid to taint her, and forged her own way to happiness.
I got the chance to go and hang out with this Yogi goddess in her hood of Byron Bay and chat with her about the health and fitness industry, happiness and her journey, and I truly walked away a bit more inspired, a bit freer, and a bit more driven to do the same for myself.
Q. Tell us a little bit about your journey to becoming a free diver yogi living in Byron Bay?
It all began around 3 years ago. I found myself in a period of lower vibration where I was moving through past trauma and depression. I wanted to be more than just content. I wanted to be happy. Like really, really, really, ridiculously, mind blowingly happy. So I made the decision to say yes to anything that nourished my soul and simply dropped anything that no longer served me. I ceased toxic relationships, quit modelling, quit drugs, quit smoking, quit alcohol, quit meat and dairy and quit my job. I tried a lot of new things even if I didn’t think they would be for me. I travelled, volunteered overseas, found love with yoga and passion with diving. I’ve been practicing yoga and diving ever since.
Q. What do you love most about what you do?
That I’m loving what I’m doing. That I’m following my heart’s purpose and living my dharma! I love that I wake up every morning and jump out of bed with a smile on my face just frothing over what the day has in store for me. I love that I’ve found this space of pure joy that I connect with every day, even on the days where things go wrong. It’s all I could ever want for me or anyone else.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who is wanting to follow in your footsteps, and create a career in the health and wellness?
I would start with asking yourself the question as to why you want to pursue a career in health and wellness. It’s important that this comes from a place of longing and authenticity so that you can genuinely share this with the world and inspire others to be well. Not just because it’s a means to an end or because you look cute in activewear. Make sure you’re in it for the right reasons. And if you are, then just go for it!
Q. What would you suggest to someone who is looking to add more happiness to their life?
Find your passions, cultivate your talents, remove anything that doesn’t nourish you and keep close anything that makes you feel alive. I promise you, if you keep true to this, the world around you and within you starts to sparkle a little more every day.
Q. Where do you find your happiness?
Within. You cannot find it anywhere else. Sure there a situations, places and people who help you connect a little more with happiness. But truth is, true, authentic happiness only ever comes from within. I’ve lived in paradise before where I was working as a yoga teacher/divemaster, living my dream life and I was probably the most miserable person I knew because I wasn’t happy within myself. I’ve learned that the secret to finding happiness is to always look within.
Q. What is the biggest mistake you have made, and what did you learn from it?
When I made the decision to move to Hawaii I was taking a huge leap of faith. I deferred my university degree, quit my job, sold my car and my possessions, left my friends and family, packed one suitcase and booked a one way ticket. And…. I fell flat on my face! I returned home heartbroken. I thought it was the biggest mistake. It took me a while to realise that it was actually the greatest gift I ever received. There was so much divine purpose in it that it all felt perfectly orchestrated and absolutely meant for me. Because it lead me to exactly where I’m meant to be - right here! It taught me how to trust the process no matter the outcome and to find happiness in every circumstance.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
The future for me definitely holds more travel, adventures, yoga and love. I’m working on producing online yoga classes, teaching overseas, hosting retreats, opening a studio, spreading the message, sharing the joy and leaving this world a little better than when I found it. However that may look.
After spending just one day snorkeling, hiking and eating Acai in Byron Bay with this woman, I felt like the world was mine for the taking. Her free spirited nature helps her to make trusting wholeheartedly in yourself and taking a leap of faith most of us wouldn't dream of taking seem easy.
